ROB SIMPSON FOR HAYWARD CITY COUNCIL
I serve as a founding member of the Keep Hayward Clean and Green Task Force. I formed the city of Hayward’s first Sustainability Committee. I serve on the Board of Directors for The Hayward Area Planning Association HAPA and the Old Highlands Homeowners Association. I serve in the Hayward Rotary Club. I am the Broker/owner of Grandview Realty. My Hayward firm focuses on land use and planning. More information is available at www.redwoodrob.com I HAVE GIVEN 30,000 TREES TO THE COMMUNITY.
GREEN NOT GREY
We need renewable Energy, not fossil fuel fired power plants on our shoreline.
.Our existing City Council has approved the fifth biggest polluter in the Bay Area to be built on our shoreline. Calpines facility will emit 1.8 million tons of pollution into our air, 3 times as much as the entire rest of the city. I have spent nearly 500 hours and thousands of dollars of my money to fight this decision. I filed an appeal to the EPA which is presently the only thing stopping Calpine and the City Council. When Elected I will cause a vote to end this plan and move us forward into renewable energy in Hayward for Hayward.
LOGICAL TRAFFIC SOLUTION, NO LOOP
Our existing City Council ignored the business community and the people of Hayward when they approved paving over downtown businesses to make a A Street, Foothill Boulevard, D Street and Mission Boulevard one way around downtown. We don’t need to turn downtown into a big cloverleaf. We need logical traffic solutions that add value to Hayward like a new BART station at Mission and Harder by Kmart right down the hill from the University, advanced traffic lights and improved freeway ramps.
SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES
Our City Council should encourage, support and protect local businesses not treat them as an inconvenience to the city. Many businesses have been in the city paying taxes and providing their services to the community for decades. These businesses should be treated with the respect that they have earned even if they are not fancy and new.
CRIME, CRIME, CRIME
We should be safer in our homes and on our streets. Our police department needs the tools to do their job but they also need direction from the City to focus on violent and predatory crime. Drug addicts need treatment. We need intervention, education and community service programs.
WE HAVE A HOMELESS PROBLEM.
Our city needs to recognize this fact and address it. We need transitional housing opportunities and mental health care for those who need it.
EDUCATION
I support the school bond. The best thing that we can do for our community is to improve the education for our students. Better education will reduce crime, increase our wealth, add value to our property and give our community better opportunities for the future.
