I grew up near the Castro Valley Community Center it has been a wonderful resource throughout my life. My Children now enjoy it. 2 of them go to Chabot Elementary as I did. They particularly enjoy the water park as do thousands of children and their families.
I understand the need to balance drought considerations, budget and many factors. I believe that there is opportunity to economically save the water park, reduce water use to below pre water park levels and demonstrate the districts commitment to water conservation and the community.
I would like to propose a potential solution to the Water Park Issue: Retention tank(s) totaling 10,000 gallons can be placed below the water park grade at the baseball field grade to pick up the water from the storm drain. They can be above ground in some sort of enclosure.
There appears to be an adjacent irrigation valve and power supply. The retained water can be used at that point to pressurize the sprinkler system. Backflow prevention to fresh water may be needed.
These tanks can also serve to preserve storm water for subsequent irrigation.
I believe that this solution can be safer better and more economical then trying to recycle the water park water into itself. The filtration and chemical treatment can be minimized and we can enjoy the added benefit of enhanced storm water utilization.
consider this sustainable solution. If you are willing to help please let me know.
